It isn’t uncommon to head to the grocery store and return home missing a few items—but one woman skipped the groceries altogether and came back with something far more unexpected.
Instead of bags filled with food, the woman returned three hours later carrying a tiny black kitten, a moment that quickly melted hearts on Reddit.
A photo of the kitten—black with striking blue eyes—was shared by a user identified as u/kishi045 under the title: “Mom left to buy groceries… came back 3 hours later with a cat instead.”
According to the post, it was “supposed to be a quick trip.” Statista reports that the primary grocery shopper in U.S. households made an average of 1.5 shopping trips per week in 2025. In this case, the family will need to make another run.
“Instead of grocery bags, she’s holding this tiny black kitten like it’s the most normal thing in the world,” the user wrote.
The poster went on to explain how the kitten was found. They wrote: “She told me she found him sitting alone by a fence on her way to the shop. She didn’t just pick him up right away. She stayed there for a while checking the area, looking through bushes, and asking around in case there was a mama cat nearby. There wasn’t.
