A UPS driver found himself in a hilarious standoff with three massive Saint Bernards who refused to let him leave their California home without handing over a treat, and TikTok viewers can’t get enough of it.
Canines and mail carriers have a long-standing feud with each other. Dogs often become territorial of their homes. They’ll bark nonstop to protect their territory from the stranger. Some will take it a step further and bite. Dog attacks on postal service employees reached over 6,000 cases in 2024, according to the United States Postal Service.
Fortunately, this delivery to a citrus farm on the central coast of California did not end in disaster. The UPS driver was instead greeted by three rescue Saint Bernards scheming their way to a doggy treat, which they knew to be in the truck.
In a TikTok video posted on October 4 by @thestardustgrove, one of the giant dogs boldly climbed into the UPS truck, making herself comfortable while the other two cornered him from behind. The canine’s tail wagged as the driver showered her with pets, but the dog’s mission was clear: no treats, no departure. She refused to leave the truck until the driver dipped his hand into the milkbone box.
As soon as the dogs saw the treats in hand, they eagerly followed the driver to the yard. He passed the treats out quickly and bolted back to the truck before the trio could demand seconds.
Meanwhile, viewers can hear the disapproval in the owner’s voice as the dogs didn’t listen to him about getting off the truck, but he knows this is the usual interaction, specifically with UPS.
“We rescue Saint Bernards, and they all love the UPS van and hear it coming up the hill,” the owner told Newsweek via TikTok. “Not so much the FedEx guy.”
UPS also weighed in on the adorable exchange, telling Newsweek via email: “Our drivers often build strong relationships with customers, even four-legged ones!”
Viewer Reactions
The TikTok video reached over 450,000 views, more than 64,200 likes and 318 comments as of Wednesday, with viewers in stitches over the pups’ perfectly executed plan. Viewers called the driver a “true saint” for obliging.
“The dog bones in the truck …. Too cute!!! All the dogs on his route must love him!!!!” wrote one user.
Another added: “Holding the UPS guy hostage until he gives the treats. Lol [laugh out loud] wants to make sure he remembers.”
A third person pointed out: “Wait, the one didn’t get one. He needs to come back and make it right.”
