Russell Westbrook is moving up the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
The Sacramento Kings guard jumped Hakeem Olajuwon to get to No. 14 with 26,947 points.
As the Kings took on the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, the NBA announced Westbrook’s special accomplishment on social media.
via @NBA: Congrats to @russwest44 of the @SacramentoKings for moving into 14th on the all-time SCORING list!
Westbrook is now chasing Elvin Hayes, who has 27,313 points. He’s right behind Moses Malone.
While this season has been disappointing for the Kings, Westbrook has had a chance to continue building on his legacy after a questionable summer. After spending one season with the Denver Nuggets during the 2024-2025 NBA season, the veteran guard declined his option and hit the free agency market.
Multiple teams were rumored to have interest in Westbrook, but only the Kings made an offer well into the preseason. Westbrook initially signed to take on a bench role. He ended up becoming a full-time starter for the Kings.
With 42 starts in 48 games, Westbrook has made 43 percent of his shots from the field to produce 15.4 points per game. He also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.
Heading into Wednesday’s game, the Kings hold a Western Conference-worst 12-39 record. They are 0.5 games back from the New Orleans Pelicans.
The trade deadline is less than 24 hours away, and the Kings are expected to remain active. While several key players have been name-dropped in rumors, Westbrook has ultimately steered clear of rumors about his uniform changing. The same can’t be said about some of his top teammates.
The 37-year-old future Hall of Famer isn’t in an ideal situation from a team standpoint, but he’s taking full advantage of the 2025-2026 NBA season, building on his strong legacy in the league.
